Michigan Congressmen tell DC Mayor to stop spending money on abortions

By Todd A. Heywood | 04.22.11 | 11:25 am

Four Michigan Congressmen have signed a letter to Washington D.C. Mayor Vince Gray demanding that he fall in line with federal restrictions on spending federal money for abortions.

The letter, published by the DCist, includes the following statement:

With reinstatement of the D.C. Hyde amendment public funding for the destruction of innocent human life will no longer be permitted in D.C. However, history has shown that the District has not always complied with this policy when it has been in place in the past. When this policy was reinstated in FY96, the District continued to fund abortions in violation of the law until the violation was uncovered in FY98. We do not anticipate that this situation will occur again, but in light of this history, we ask that you provide detailed information outlining what steps you are taking to ensure that no more public funds are used to pay for elective abortion in D.C.

The letter was signed by Michigan Congressmen Justin Amash, Tim Walberg, Bill Huezinga and Thaddeus McCotter. All four are Republicans. Three of them, Amash, Walberg and Huezinga are freshmen in Congress.

Who elected you noses? You are a disgrace- why aren’t you minding your own business and taking care of the women, children of Michigan? Oh I forgot, you have practically decimated the entire culture of Michigan. Shame. You have no true conscience. False faces all. Right behind SICK RICK.

We are minding our own business, who’s money do you think is being used for these abortions.

The people that live in DC. There are exception in the Hyde Amendment that allow for abortions under certain circumstances; rape, incest, the health of the mother. Since the inception of the Hyde Amendment, it was left up to each state to decide the funding of theses services. Except for DC. The residents of DC were unable to make this decision until 2009. In 2009, the Congressional ban was lifted for DC. Local DC taxes were used to establish services within the parameters of the Hyde Amendment. Until the recent budget fight where Republicans controlling congress decided that they would reinstitute the ban for DC.

Seems like Michigan congressmen have bigger issues…thought republicans were supposed to be for “small government” Taking over my uterus is not small government its “Big Brother” at its worst.

    • Anonymous

Thats right, its your uterus you take responsibility for what happens in it. If you don’t ask us to pay for what happens in your uterus nobody would be complaining.

      • Anonymous

Please, their would be people complaining regardless of who pays.

They can spend their tax dollars however they decide. Michigan can mind its own politicians- can them!

    • Anonymous

Republicans “say” they want small government, but in fact they would like to have a BIG authoritarian Government with one party ….Them.

      • Anonymous

Why is it the Republicans want to cut the spending back to 2008 levels and the Democrats are having a fit. I think you have it backwards.

        • Anonymous

Nope, Republicans had 2 wars on the books NOT payed for, Medicade part D, NOT payed for( that was a large government give away to the drug companies ) and a tax break for the wealthiest that has not created any of the “jobs” it was suppose to. Their creative use of the budget by not including these items led to a gigantic amount when it was included.

          • Anonymous

That does’nt explain why the Democrats are crying over the fact that they (republicans) want to quit the spending. Who wants the bigger Government???

          • Anonymous

For Republicans, the role of government is primarily about imperialism in the guise of “national defense” and social control. Without a strong federal government, Iraq doesn’t happen. Without a strong government, spying on American citizens wouldn’t be possible. Republicans depend on military might to provide American businesses with an unfair advantage abroad and to maintain control of the masses at home.

For Democrats, the role of government is to promote civility, help those who are less fortunate, and minimize exploitation by corporate America. Can this be wasteful? You bet. Can this raise interesting moral issues about society’s obligation to help those who may attempt to cheat the system? Certainly. Can this interfere with the free market? Absolutely.

If you people could take care of your offspring without the help of the government nobody would be in your business. Seeing how you cant figure out how a woman gets pregnant you need to have rules. Dopes

Writing a letter hardly take s a lot of time. In addition, if D.C. was violating a law and they knew about it, one would think it would be their duty to react in some way. Furthermore, they aren’t putting their noses in anyone’s uterus about whether they should or shouldn’t be aborting fetuses, rather that D.C. shouldn’t be paying for them and breaking laws.
