By Staff Report | 11.16.11

I am writing today to announce the closure of the Michigan Messenger. After four years of operation in Michigan, the board of the American Independent News Network, has decided to shift publication of its news into a single site, The American Independent at Americanindependent.com. This is part of a shift in strategy, towards new forms [...]

Michigan Citizens United files petition to recall Snyder

By Eartha Jane Melzer | 04.21.11 | 4:10 pm

A new Political Action Committee, Michigan Citizens United, has officially begun the process of recalling Gov. Rick Snyder by filing a petition in Washtenaw County where Snyder lives.

On its website the group says it must collect about 807,000 valid signatures in order to get a recall of Snyder on the November ballot.

AnnArbor.com reports:

The petition wording says Snyder: “has approved and signed various laws that take authority and funds from local governments and school districts and vest them with the state. He has obtained for himself, through his appointed Emergency Financial Managers, the power to invalidate legal and binding contracts entered into by properly elected local authorities. He has sought tax increases upon retirees and lower income families, but instead of addressing the deficit, he has sought large new tax cuts for corporations and businesses.”

A hearing on April 29 before the Washtenaw County Elections Commission will determine whether the petition wording is clear. At that point, the group can begin seeking signatures on recall petitions, Yankee said. The petition cannot actually be submitted to the state until six months after the governor took office, which is July 1.

Collecting enough signatures to recall the governor is a big job and attempts to recall former governors Granholm, Engler and Blanchard were all unsuccessful.

Many are watching this latest recall effort to see how much social networking sites like Facebook will assist the campaign.

No more time is necessary. He’s shown what he sees important… protecting the rich and the heck with the rest.

Show me one thing that conflicts with that statement.

Snyder’s move reeks of fascism. Give him a chance and he’ll take over most of MI at HIS whim. “Absolute power corrupts”.

I am pulling for the state of Michigan. This man sounds more and more like your out of control dictator. Everybody sign the petition. The problem lately, years, is voter ignorance or voter apathy. That is how you get stuck with all these unqualified, radical people in office after 2010.

Snyder has given business a break on the backs of seniors and school children. He has not raised taxes on higher paid individuals. Why is it government always goes after the poor. Besides a recall on the governor, Michigan residents need to go after a majority Republican rule like Wisconsin is doing. Living in Kalamazoo, we hear nothing about the upset of the public. I feel channel 3 and the Kal Gazette are very much Republican. They tell you nothing. Thank heaven for the internet. I want to join this fight and am having a hard time in contacting the people who have come up with the petition. Perhaps I’m not so computer savy.

On the one hand he wants to jeopardize the education of our kids while on the other he wants to welcome well qualified immigrants – very patriotic!  On top of that he’s taxing the retired.  His agenda is clear.  Encourage retiree’s to leave Michigan, force parents to put their kids into private schools and attract cheap labor for business.  Some of these businesses that he wants to give tax breaks to already heavily outsource their manufacturing operations
