This is part of a shift in strategy, towards new forms [...]

Stabenow amendment would block EPA climate regs

By Eartha Jane Melzer | 03.30.11 | 11:28 am

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) has proposed an amendment to small business legislation that would suspend U.S. Environmental Protection Agency greenhouse gas regulations for two years.

The Senate is expected to vote today on S493, a bill to reauthorize the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs of the Small Business Administration.

Republicans have offered numerous amendments aimed at forcing Democrats to vote on EPA powers.

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) offered an amendment that would prohibit EPA from taking any action to address climate change.

Stabenow’s amendment would give coal-fired power plants, oil refineries and other industrial sources a two year exemption from new EPA rules that require them to report their greenhouse gas emissions.

Stabenow spokespeople were not available to speak about the amendment.

The Hill reports that a League of Conservation Voters poll of voters in Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania this week shows most people support letting EPA regulate carbon pollution.

“Three in five (63%) voters in the three Midwestern states say they trust the EPA more than Congress to decide whether there should be new standards for carbon pollution,” states a summary of the poll, conducted by Hart Research Associates.

Looks like Stabenow has gotten into bed with Snyder. Very tragic decision to pollute and given the citizens they serve cancer especially children breathing those toxic fumes. How is it they get away with poisioning people and the environment? What has happened to the laws? Are we in the wild west? Anything goes?

I usually trust Debby Stabenow, but hate to see her caving in to the Republicans on protecting our planet, our health, our future. My neighbor lost her dog and cat to Chinese pet food tainted with Melamine – a tragic, painful ordeal – another example of the need for protective regulations with the FDA, as well as EPA , which are equally important.
