Poll shows mixed reaction to Snyder’s proposed cuts

By Ed Brayton | 03.04.11 | 9:04 am

A new poll commissioned by the Detroit Free Press and WXYZ-TV shows mixed results on the package of budget cuts proposed by Gov. Rick Snyder, with voters rejecting the K-12 budget cuts but supporting the cuts in revenue sharing.

By a 51-43 percent margin, respondents were okay with the cuts to universities, but by a nearly 2/1 margin — 62 to 32 percent — they were opposed to cuts in K-12 funding.

And by a 59-29 percent margin, respondents favored the cuts in revenue sharing for local communities. But the question asked was rather odd and I’m guessing that minor changes in the form of the question would dramatically alter the result. For example, the question specifically noted that much of the revenue sharing went to Detroit, which might well provoke anti-Detroit animus on the part of some questioners.

And the question did not mention that the result of those cuts in revenue sharing will likely be cuts in fire and police protection in their community. If the question had mentioned that, I suspect the results would have changed significantly.

I think the percentage of intelligent, private-school attended adults is 32%…………………………

You liberals spew nonsense and people buy into it. We spend more than enough on public education. Ineffective teachers and bad parenting are to blame for our shallow pool of intellectuals.

    I don’t blame you, Ed. You’re a victim.
