McCain has not only betrayed the Veterans' trust, but also the trust of the American public. His integral part in the Keating Five scandal contributed to the meltdown on Wall Street today.

The protestors outnumbered the "by invitation only" who were bussed in to the RNC, and the majority of those protesting were veterans. McCain had 'fake' vets inside - actors. Both he an Palin are fakes with their carefully crafted public images. They can't afford to show their real Jekyl and Hyde faces. Corrupt politicians and liars the two of them.

Oh, but indeed they are soulmates. Palin enmeshed in Troopergate scandal, and he one of the original Keating Five in the S&L

Diane Sweet's article is written much like those written by other non-veteran anti-McCain journalists. She concentrates on yes and no votes involving military and veteran issues without explaining any of the background behind them. She didn't mention that there was already an abundance of body armor and helmets that just needed to get to the right place. I know, because I was in Western Iraq and had to investigate theft, fraud and misdirected logistics. Too, my wife and I are both veterans and receipiants of excellent VA health care and educational benifits. We only wish our parents could receive health care on par with that of the Veterans Administration. Ms. Sweet didn't mention that the Webb proposal for an enhanced GI Educational Bill had competition in the Graham proposed bill that would have still increased allowances in the interim and then increased them with greater military service. With reenlistments greater now than they ever were, more veterans would have qualified for the greater allowances, and one time veterans would have still received more than the original Chapter 35 which was around $1100.00 per month per veteran enrolled full time. Both proposals; James Webb's and Lindsey Graham's were good and veterans would have benifited mightily with either one. Further, Ms. Sweet thinks that veterans are a one issue group; we’re not. More than most, we care about the economy, an aggressive energy plan, individual rights as guaranteed by the Constitution that we swore to uphold, the safety and education of our children, tax breaks whenever possible, and the future security of our country which means a president who can stand up to the despots of the world and forge alliances with our allies. Few veterans think Obama has those qualities; perhaps that is the reason veterans are voting for John McCain who was more than a POW. McCain flew 21 successful combat missions over North Vietnam, served as a squadron commander after the war, and retired from the Navy after twenty years of incredible service before embarking on a long and successful career as a highly respected “working” United States senator who will soon be president and commander-in-chief. Finally Ms. Sweet, if you want to get your statistics from a cross section of veterans groups, then don’t limit yourself to Vietnam Veterans of America; ask veterans from American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Vets, and other OIF/OEF veterans organizations, including veteran student organizations why most of us are voting for John McCain.

Richard Najjar, OIF 2006/07, Ladys Island, SC, USA
