A California man was arrested this weekend in the parking lot of the Islamic Center of America mosque in Dearborn with a car full of explosives and the intent, authorities say, of blowing up the building.
AP reports:
A man loaded his vehicle with explosives and was planning to attack one of the nation’s largest mosques before law enforcement officers stopped him outside the facility as mourners gathered for a funeral, authorities say.
Dearborn police Chief Ronald Haddad said Sunday that authorities believe Roger Stockham was acting alone in the plot against the suburban Detroit center but still take him “very seriously.” He was arraigned Wednesday on one count of making a false report or threat of terrorism and one count of possessing explosives with an unlawful intent.
Stockham is in jail on a $500,000 bond.
