UPDATED: Land may challenge Stabenow

By Ed Brayton | 01.31.11 | 8:03 am

Sen. Debbie Stabenow has another potential challenger for her seat. First it was Saul Anuzis, former chair of the Michigan Republican Party; now it’s former Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land who says she may run in 2012:

Former Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land says she is considering challenging U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow in the 2012 election and is encouraged by a recent poll showing her within a few points of the Democrat.

Land, who spoke to The Detroit News while attending the Michigan Republican Party convention at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, said she plans to meet next week with another possible candidate, former U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, before making a decision.

A recent poll showed Land losing 46-41 to Stabenow in a hypothetical 2012 matchup. That same poll showed Stabenow leading 47-41 over Hoekstra.

Update: This article originally said that the poll in question had Hoekstra leading Stabenow. We reversed the results unintentionally and regret the error.
