Snyder hands over management of his investments

By Eartha Jane Melzer | 01.10.11 | 1:15 pm

Just before taking office, Governor Rick Snyder, a multi-millionaire former venture capitalist and Gateway computer executive, made good on a campaign promise to avoid financial conflicts of interest by establishing a blind trust.

According to spokeswoman Geralyn Lasher, as of Dec. 30 Snyder’s money is being managed by someone else. On Friday evening Snyder’s office released the preamble to the trust which states:

“I [RDS] wish scrupulously to avoid the possibility that decisions that I make as Governor could be influenced by my own financial interests. I, accordingly, exercise my power to amend my Trust to make the Trust “blind” during my term in office. By this Amendment, I entrust to the Independent Trustee all decisions as to when and to what extent the Trust assets are to be sold or disposed of and in what investment the net proceeds of any sale are to be reinvested, and I shall not participate in, or have knowledge of, such investment decisions.
