Upton wants health care reform repealed

By Ed Brayton | 01.03.11 | 7:41 am

Rep. Fred Upton (R-St. Joseph), the incoming chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee whose jurisdiction includes health care policy, says he will make repeal of last year’s historic health care reform bill a top priority.

The Associated Press reports that the House Republicans, in control of that chamber for the first time in four years, will take an early vote to repeal the health care bill in its entirety.

Even if that should pass the House it would almost certainly fail in the Senate, which is still controlled by Democrats. And even if were to pass the Senate, President Obama would veto it and there is no chance that both houses of Congress would have a 2/3 majority to override that veto.

Failing that, AP says, Upton said he would attack the reform package piece by piece in the hope of bringing it down.

It is not just the congressmen who are against the health care bill but also many doctors who are ready to repeal the health care act framed by the president.
Though the act is beneficial for the poor people of the country, the majority seems to be affected by it. As the president as already signed the bill, we have to wait and watch the consequences of how its going to be executed.
