Michigan Republican named head of House Intelligence Committee

By Todd A. Heywood | 12.16.10 | 11:35 am

Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Howell) will head the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence in the incoming Congress, reports the Associated Press.

Rogers, who represents the 8th Congressional District which includes Ingham, Livingston and Oakland Counties, easily won re-election in November to his sixth term in office. He is a former FBI agent and was in the U.S. army.

As the new chair, Rogers will be privy to many of the country’s top secret activities and actions in relation to battling terrorism and other national security issues.

The 47-year-old Congressman is a favorite of GOP lawmakers, having helped to raise millions in campaign support for GOP candidates.

Rogers made headlines in August when he said Wikileaks suspect Bradley Manning should face treason charges. He also said during that same interview with WHMI that Manning should face execution for his leak of military documents to Wikileaks. Rogers said the leak jeopardized the safety of U.S. troops.
