Convertino wants to dump Waters too

By Ed Brayton | 12.01.10 | 7:13 am

Two weeks ago former U.S. Attorney Richard Convertino petitioned a federal court to allow him to withdraw as attorney for Sam Riddle because he has not been paid. Now he has been given permission to withdraw as attorney for Riddle’s sometimes girlfriend, former state Rep. Mary Waters, as well. The Detroit News reports:

Former state Rep. Mary Waters will have to fight to withdraw her guilty plea in a bribery case with a new lawyer after being dumped this week.

Lawyer Richard Convertino asked for and received permission from the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday to withdraw from representing Waters, saying there was a “complete and irrevocable breakdown of the attorney-client relationship.”

Convertino was working as a court-appointed attorney for Waters but not for Riddle, who were co-defendants in a federal bribery and corruption case in which they both pleaded guilty.
