Michigan companies do well on gay equality

PerfectStormer at Michigan Liberal did what I should have done when I posted about the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index for this year: looked at how Michigan-based companies scored on their treatment of LGBT equality.

Cheers to the following Michigan companies for scoring 100% on the Human Rights Campaign’s annual Corporate Equality Index, the definitive measurement of equality issues for LGBT folks in the workplace: Borders Group, Dow Chemical, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Herman Miller, Chrysler LLC, Visteon and Whirlpool. Two hundred and fifty nine companies received perfect ratings this year, up from 13 companies back in 2002 when the CEI started.

Cheers also to Meijer (albeit a Bronx cheer), who improved their score by adding “sexual orientation” to their non-discrimination policy. Last year they were one of two companies that earned a “perfect” 0% (this year that dubious distinction goes to ExxonMobil and Perot Systems.) This year Meijer gets a 15%.

Always good to know.
