Nooses found on Central Michigan University campus; FBI, Police investigating

By Todd A. Heywood | 11.17.07 | 1:31 pm

Central Michigan University police have asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation to assist them in investigating the appearance of four nooses on the Mount Pleasant campus earlier this week. The nooses were found by a student in a classroom in the Engineering and Technology Building.

CMU detective Seargent Pickler was interviewing witnesses Saturday afternoon and not immediately available to comment on the investigation. The Saturday interviews appear to be unusual in that the CMU police website indicates Pickler’s office hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The noose incident is only the latest in a series of racially motivated incidents on the campus. Last year, Neo-Nazis from the Cadillac group of the National Socialist Movement (NSM) were on campus flyering for supporters. This past Columbus Day the Mount Pleasant Morning Sun reports fliers against Native Americans were distribute all over campus, and slid under doors. A few weeks ago, the paper reports, fliers depicting all muslims as terrorists were distributed all over campus.

Noose incidents have been on the up surge this year, and CNN did an extensive, hour long documentary on the noose just three weeks ago.
