Anuzis plans to win national GOP seat with new media

By Todd A. Heywood | 11.16.10 | 10:50 am

Former Michigan GOP Chair Saul Anuzis is planning to take the top spot in the GOP leadership through the use of new media, reports The Hill.

Anuzis was widely recognized as a leader in the use of new media — including social media — in his role as Michigan GOP chair.

“It’s critical we integrated new media into everyday politics. It works, it’s efficient and we need to do it,” Anuzis told The Hill when contacted over the weekend. He also said his candidacy has already sparked enthusiasm among social networking aficianados.

“We have a whole team of new media folks who have jumped in and offered to help,” he added.

This social and new media work may be part of the reason former Anuzis antagonist John Yob has reached out to Anuzis. The Grand Rapids Press reports the former foe has taken the mantra “There is only one label that matters and that is Michigander,” to heart. On his Facebook Friday, Yob posted a cryptic message about Anuzis’ announcement which could signal a shift to supporting Anuzis. In 2009, when Anuzis sought the chairmanship, Yob threw his support behind former Ohio Republican Kenneth Blackwell over Anuzis.

The current chair is Michael Steele and he has not declared formally if he intends to stand for re-election to the two year post.
