Poll: Schauer has 7 point lead in District 7

A new poll from WLNS in Lansing shows incumbent Rep. Mark Schauer with a 7-point lead over Republican Tim Walberg in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, one of the key swing districts in the country that could help determine whether the Democrats can hold on to control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Mr. Schauer is at 50 percent, Walberg at 43 percent.

“Walberg’s in trouble because he’s not pulling the independent vote that all the other republican candidates are pulling this year,” said Tom Shields, political pollster.

While republican candidate for governor Rick Snyder is doing well with voters who lean republican, Mr. Walberg is not and he needs them to win

“He’s losing 30 percent of those people who lean republican and these people are solid for GOP candidates on the ballot,” said Shields.

This is one of the most hotly contested — and most expensive — House races in the nation, with money pouring in to the district from third party groups aligned with both political parties.
