Republican Secretary of State candidate Ruth Johnson and Democrat Jocelyn Benson each have around half a million dollars in campaign cash on hand as they head into the final days of the election.
Benson has been campaigning far longer than Johnson and has received many more individual contributions.
Oakland County Clerk Johnson raised $110,046.12 between Sept. 18 and Oct. 17 and spent $34,275.22. Overall this election she has raised $599,702.39 and spent $93,058.41. She has $506,643.98 on hand.
Johnson’s largest contribution this period was $10,000 from the Auto Dealers of Michigan PAC.
Democrat Jocelyn Benson, a professor at Wayne State University reports $170,020.02 raised and $79,818.65 spent this period.
Altogether this election cycle Benson has raised $802,273.91 and spent $248,649.95. She has $524,835.66 on hand.
In the most recent round of campaign finance filings Benson listed 823 contributions including many donation of under $5.00 from individuals in other states. Her largest contribution for this period was $16,950.00 from the Michigan Education Association PAC which has given her a total of $33,950.00 during this campaign.
Johnson had fewer and larger contributions with a heavy concentration of giving by people in Grand Rapids. Johnson’s latest finance report listed 120 contributions. People with the surname DeVos gave $27,200.
