Schauer gets endorsement of local chambers of commerce

By Ed Brayton | 10.22.10 | 10:50 am

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce may be overwhelmingly Republican in the candidates they endorse, but local chambers of commerce are more diverse in their choices. Rep. Mark Schauer, the Democratic incumbent from the 7th District, has received the endorsement of the two major chambers in his district — the Battle Creek and Marshall Chambers of Congress — as well as the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Interestingly, all three of those chambers endorsed his opponent, Republican Tim Walberg, during their 2008 campaign against one another. Schauer won that race and now Walberg is trying to regain his seat.

Schauer has also gotten the endorsement of the VFW, which is also typically a conservative-leaning organization, along with some of the more traditional Democratic constituencies like the Sierra Club and the major labor unions.

While the VFW may be a typically a conservative-leaning organization. The VFW PAC endorsements were not conservative-leaning at all and the VFW organization recently voted to disband the PAC due to their liberal, anti veteran endorsements.

Schauer is no moderate and has voted lock-step with Nancy Pelosi and crew. His support for cap and tax shows his loyalty to the liberal ruling class and his lack of concern for Michigan workers and businesses. Cap and tax would seriously harm Michigan’s economy or what’s left of it after 8 years of Grandholm.
