State lawmakers are preparing to pass one of three budgets left for approval prior to the state’s new fiscal year, which begins Oct 1.
Both chambers of the legislature have approved 12 of 15 state departmental budgets already, reports MLive.com. Still waiting for approval are budgets for general government, human services and transportation are still waiting for votes. The Senate is expected to take up the general government budget in Wednesday’s morning session.
The general government budget includes the 10 percent pay cut for lawmakers approved last year.
Lawmakers are expected to pass the budget bills before the deadline, avoiding temporary shut downs which characterized the budget battles last September and in 2007. Those battles resulted in short lived, but controversial government shut downs.
