A Republican candidate for the State House seat in Michigan’s 31st House District was arrested Thursday for driving on a suspended license.
The Macomb Daily reports 49-year-old Dan Tollis was arrested outside the Vietnam War Memorial in Clinton Township. The paper says Tollis has admitted to the troubles, and noted the suspended license was the result of unpaid driver responsibility fees stemming from other traffic run-ins.
The paper reports the candidate says he was driven to an event by his son. The son went to the library and Tollis drove his truck over to the library to pick up his son. That’s where police found him and checked him out. His truck was impounded, and he was arrested. He posted a $100 bond.
And this is not the first run-in the bricklayer has had with the law this election season. On election day, Aug. 3, he was caught speeding on Metropolitan Parkway and Moravian. Police discovered that his license was suspended then and issued a warning, and a court appearance order for the license issue, the Daily reports.
Tollis’ opponent, Democrat Marilyn Lane declined to comment on the arrest, saying only, “My only thought is Dan needs to focus on helping himself before he can help any of us in Lansing.”
Both are vying to replace outgoing state Rep. Fred Miller, who is term limited out. The seat covers Mt. Clemens, Clinton Township and Fraser.
