Big Three automakers all report 2nd quarter profit

As expected, the newly restructured General Motors reported a $1.3 billion profit in the second quarter of 2010. Ford doubled that, posting a $2.6 billion profit for the quarter, while Chrysler reported an operating profit of $183 million.

This comes as GM prepares for one of the largest stock IPOs in American history, hoping to raise $16 billion when the company goes public later this year. This is extremely good news for an auto industry that was all but dead 18 months ago.
