Snyder leads GOP field in new poll

By Ed Brayton | 07.30.10 | 7:15 am

That same Epic/MRA poll that showed Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero leading House Speaker Andy Dillon in the Democratic race for governor also shows businessman Rick Snyder suddenly leading Rep. Pete Hoekstra and Attorney General Mike Cox in the Republican race for the same seat. Politico reports:

In the EPIC-MRA survey, Snyder leads the GOP pack with 26 percent, compared with 24 percent for state Attorney General Mike Cox and 23 percent for Rep. Pete Hoekstra. Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard trailed in the poll with just 10 percent, and state Sen. Tom George had 1 percent.

Snyder has gained significant ground since earlier this summer, when Hoekstra and Cox battled for the lead. The last EPIC-MRA poll in the race, conducted in June, gave Cox a 2-point lead over Hoekstra and a 6-point lead over Snyder. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minor 4.9 percentage points.

Tuesday could be a very unpredictable day.
