Responders trying to stop oil at Morrow Lake

By Ed Brayton | 07.28.10 | 2:07 pm

Oil from a broken pipeline in Marshall continues to move westward in the Kalamazoo River. Last night officials were hoping to stop the flow of oil using booms placed in the river near Fort Custer State Park just to the west of Battle Creek, but now booms have been deployed further west of that, in Morrow Lake near Galesburg. The Kalamazoo Gazette reports.

Morrow Lake is really just a widening of the Kalamazoo River between Galesburg and Kalamazoo. The booms have been set up on the eastern end of the lake where the river begins to widen. On the western end of the lake is the Morrow Dam; officials hope to have the oil stopped before it reaches that point.
