RIP Chetly Zarko

By Ed Brayton | 07.20.10 | 6:43 pm

It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Chetly Zarko — conservative political activist, former legislative staffer, blogger, journalist and staunch advocate of government transparency. Early reports indicate that he died this weekend of an apparent heart attack.

Chetly was often a critic of the Michigan Messenger, but he also graciously helped us pursue transparency through Freedom of Information Act requests when we needed it. Because we value an honest critic as much as we do an earnest friend, we will miss our interactions with Chetly. Our deepest sympathies go out to his friends and family.

Nothing more touching than seeing how Chet touched people across the political spectrum. Always a class act, always gracious.
