Following up on Tuesday’s story about Attorney General Mike Cox’s ties to the foreclosure industry, Jason Moon, spokesperson for the state Office of Financial and Insurance Services, says Cox’s office has only brought charges in three of 16 cases referred to his office for prosecution.

“As of December 3, 2009, the AG’s office has charged three from the mortgage fraud referrals from our office over the previous two years and others were pending,” Moon wrote in a statement to Michigan Messenger.

He clarified that over the previous two years, OFIS attorneys have referred 16 cases for criminal action based on allegations of mortgage fraud.

An official from OFIS told the Detroit News in 2007 that the agency had handed the AG’s office cases “on a silver platter.”
