Worthy gets threat, Cox hands off investigation

Rep. Bart Stupak is not alone in getting threats these days. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy says she has received them regularly and the latest one, which came in after former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was sentenced to prison for violating the terms of his probation, will be investigated by another county prosecutor. The Detroit News reports:

Supervision of an investigation into an e-mailed death threat against Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy after the recent sentencing of former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was handed today to Washtenaw County authorities.

Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox appointed Washtenaw County Prosecutor Brian L. Mackie to determine if charges should arise from an electronic message delivered May 26, the day after Kilpatrick was sentenced by Wayne County Circuit Judge David Groner to serve 1 1/2 to 5 years for violating probation.

If a case involves a possible conflict of interest for a county prosecutor, the state attorney general routinely assigns another prosecutor to handle the case.
