8th Congressional Dems try to recruit Granholm to challenge Rogers

By Todd A. Heywood | 06.07.10 | 11:41 am

It didn’t take long for Democrats in the 8th Congressional District to start shopping for a replacement candidate after Kande Ngalamulume announced he was done.

As a result, a Facebook group was formed to recruit outgoing Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

But don’t expect Granholm to be campaigning for such a post anytime soon. The Daily Tribune reports Granholm’s spokespeople say the Gov is a no go on the idea.

Through her office, the governor said her answer to the movement is, “Simply, no.”

“The governor is not considering a run for Congress,” said Granholm spokeswoman Tiffany Brown.

If the Democrats are able to rally a challenger, they have until July 23 to register as a write in candidate.

In the meantime, with no challenger on the horizon, Rogers’ office released this statement to the Tribune:

“Congressman Rogers remains solely focused on improving the job and economic climate in Michigan, working to undo the crushing price increases on health care premiums just passed into law and stopping dangerous runaway government spending that is stealing from our children,” Rogers spokeswoman Sylvia Warner said. “Mike has always been far more concerned about the jobs of his constituents than his own job.”
