ICE arrests three from Arizona sit-in

Flavia de la Fuente, spokesperson for a group of undocumented youth arrested during a protest of Sen. John McCain, tells the Michigan Messenger the three have now been taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The group was being held on misdemeanor trespassing charges by Tucson police following a Monday protest at McCain’s Arizona office, where they were pushing the senator for swift action on the DREAM Act. McCain is a past sponsor of the DREAM Act, but this past year declined to cosponsor the measure; critics believe McCain’s reluctance is a result of a primary challenge from the right by radio talk host J.D. Hayworth.

Among those detained is Mohammad Abdollahi, 24, an Iranian who has lived in Ann Arbor since he was three. Abdollahi is gay and faces deportation back to Iran. Iran has severe punishments for homosexuality, including whippings and execution.

    Well I guess if you are a gay illegal Iranian Alien, then you should not be protesting openly in the USA… Now his whole life is on the line…
