Blackwater founder Erik Prince gave his long-awaited speech at the Tulip Time festival on Wednesday, with media present in the room. Kathy Barks Hoffman of the Associated Press was there and she reports that the speech was something straight out of the Tea Party manual.
“We’re a nation being led by debt, litigation and regulation,” he said. “The greatest threat to our freedom and prosperity is not al-Qaida, the Taliban, Iran or even China. It’s an idea, the idea that we can spend our way out of our problems without tightening our belt and paring down the very bloated government.”
Rather ironic given that 90 percent of Blackwater’s income is from government contracts. But this is my favorite part:
Several people at Prince’s speech said they welcomed hearing about the experiences that led him to found the private security company, which he boasted has handled 40,000 missions guarding U.S. and other officials in Iraq without a single death or injury to its clients.
If only the same could be said of innocent, unarmed civilians nearby.
