Michigan GOP reverses position on Doster

By Ed Brayton | 05.03.10 | 7:29 am

What a difference a weekend makes. Only a few days after the Michigan Republican State Committee’s policy board asked their chief counsel Eric Doster to step down pending an investigation into an organization he appears to be involved with that has been putting out negative ads about some of the GOP’s gubernatorial candidates, that board has reversed itself and the full committee has voted unanimously to support Doster:

The Michigan Republican State Committee has unanimously passed a resolution supporting Eric Doster as legal counsel after a policy committee asked him to temporarily step down.

At issue was whether Doster has any ties to a group that earlier this year ran a radio ad targeting GOP gubernatorial candidate Pete Hoekstra. The Holland congressman is one of five Republicans running for governor.

The policy committee on Saturday rescinded its earlier resolution and the full committee passed a resolution affirming its “full faith and confidence” in the Lansing attorney.

An interesting development that provokes the obvious question of whether this situation will ever be fully investigated and resolved.
