Former presidential candidates endorse governor candidates

By Ed Brayton | 04.23.10 | 7:39 am

The Detroit Free Press reports that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has endorsed Rep. Pete Hoekstra to be the next governor of the state his father, George Romney, once led. Romney’s rival in the race for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, has endorsed Mike Cox.

Given Romney’s popularity and ties to Michigan, Hoekstra probably comes out on the strong end of the exchange. Romney will be hosting a fund raiser for Hoekstra next week in Grand Rapids, which should be a big boost to his campaign as he has been lagging behind Cox and Snyder for funds.

Rep. Hoekstra is the Michele Bachmann of Michigan.

I was at a Tea Party last week, and someone from the Hoekstra campaign gave me a flyer with a quote from Rep. Bachmann saying that Hoekstra is “one of the good ones” (or something to that effect).

Now I'm sure with the right demographic (aka the tea party members), this quote would help Hoekstra's campaign. But I'm going to do my best to re-create the flyer and give it out to anyone I see, since I want as many people as possible to grasp its message.
