I am writing today to announce the closure of the Michigan Messenger. After four years of operation in Michigan, the board of the American Independent News Network, has decided to shift publication of its news into a single site, The American Independent at Americanindependent.com. An abstinence-only presentation provided to numerous school districts in Calhoun and Eaton Counties in October of this year provided false and misleading information to students about HIV, experts allege.
Two county registers of deeds filed a class action lawsuit Monday on behalf of Michigan’s 83 counties alleging that the Mortgage Electronic Registration Services owes millions of dollars in property title transfer taxes.
Despite evidence of the impact of mercury on children and public health, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette last month joined with 24 other state attorneys general in filing a lawsuit to scuttle new EPA regulations that would reduce mercury emissions from power plants.
Michigan Messenger queried voters yesterday in Oakland Mall in Troy, Mich. about their opinions of Sen. John McCain’s VP pick Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
Most people we approached said they couldn’t comment because they didn’t know anything about Palin. Those who were willing to share their opinions also admitted that they didn’t know much about her. Some were concerned about Palin’s lack of experience and others thought it was a strategic move on McCain’s part to get the women’s vote. A couple of shoppers said Palin was qualified enough to be VP and possibly president.
McCain and Palin are making Michigan their first campaign stop after the Republican National Convention ends tonight in St. Paul.
Palin’s address at the convention last night, written by President Bush’s speechwriter, was well-received by many in the media, especially the Associated Press, which had a lukewarm reception to Sen. Barack Obama’s otherwise widely-praised speech in Denver last week.
Palin will try to make further inroads toward her introduction to the state of Michigan and the Metro Detroit Area tomorrow in Sterling Heights, 5pm at the Freedom Hill Amphitheatre, 14900 Metro Parkway. Doors open at 3:00 pm for the rally. The link above has information on where free tickets are available.
