A former dispatcher for the Detroit 911 system says the rumored party at Manoogian Mansion featuring strippers did happen. And she said in an affidavit filed in federal court yesterday that she dispatched officers to the mayoral mansion.
The filing comes in the civil suit against the city by the family of exotic dancer Tamara “Strawberry” Greene, the Associated Press reports. Greene allegedly danced at the party — which was later investigated and dismissed as an “urban legend” by Attorney General Mike Cox. She was shot several times while in a parked car in 2003 and subsequently died from the shooting.
The AP quotes the former 911 dispatcher, Sandy Cardenas, from the affidavit:
“One night in the fall of 2002, I received several calls to dispatch police units to a disturbance call, located at the Manoogian Mansion,” she said. Cardenas said the location made it a “high priority run” that drew supervisors and officers from at least four precincts.
“Arriving officers could not gain entry … due to the fact that the doors were locked, and no one would open the doors to let the officers inside,” she said.
She also said that once Carlita Kilpatrick, wife of disgraced former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, showed up “things really heated up.”
This revelation comes just as Cox, who is running for the Republican nomination for governor, appeared to have quelled issues around his investigation by sitting for an hours-long deposition in the case. Last year, former Michigan State Police investigators testified Cox hampered their murder investigation.
Political watchers have said the mansion scandal could impact Cox’s gubernatorial hopes.
