Cox to ‘back off’ health care lawsuit? Not so fast

By Ed Brayton | 04.05.10 | 7:44 am

There seems to be some sort of miscommunication going on between Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Attorney General Mike Cox not only over whether Cox has the authority to sign Michigan on to a lawsuit challenging the new health care reform bill passed recently, but also over whether Cox has or has not agreed to suspend that lawsuit.

WILX reported last week:

A new twist Wednesday in the health care drama swirling between Governor Jennifer Granholm and Attorney General Mike Cox.

“Yesterday he agreed to back off claiming the State of Michigan as a client in opposition of this legislation,” says Granholm.

Cox retorted on his Twitter account:

Gov says I’m “backing off” my lawsuit against Obamacare. Huh? Maybe she didn’t watch Greta? :) http://bit.ly/bP0Nin. See you in court!

A Cox spokesman said that Cox is only changing the wording on the lawsuit to indicate that he is suing on behalf of “the people of Michigan” rather than “the state of Michigan.”
