Gov. Jennifer Granhom is among 30 governors who has received a letter from an extreme anti-government group demanding she resign in three days or be removed.
The Associated Press reports the letters came from an extremist group calling itself Defenders of the Free Republics. Her spokesperson, Liz Boyd, told the AP Granholm received the letter Monday or Tuesday.
AP reports the letters were noted in an internal intelligence note from the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security.
Granholm spokeswoman Liz Boyd said federal authorities had alerted the governor that such a letter might be coming, and it arrived Monday or Tuesday. Boyd, who described the letter as “non-threatening,” said it was opened by a staffer and immediately turned over to the Michigan State Police. Granholm did not see the letter.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindahl, a Republican, also received the letter, AP reports.
