Another possible challenger for Cheeks Kilpatrick

By Ed Brayton | 03.30.10 | 7:38 am

Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (D-Detroit), already facing a primary challenge from state Sen. Hansen Clarke this fall, may soon have a second challenger. The Detroit News reports that Pastor Glenn Plummer is also considering a challenge to Kilpatrick, though there is no indication whether that would be a primary challenge as a Democrat or a run at the Republican nomination.

Pastor Glenn Plummer is considering running against U.S. Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick.

He’ll make his announcement at 6 p.m. today in the Penobscot Building downtown

Plummer is the chairman and CEO of Christian Television Network, which has its headquarters and flagship station, WLPC-TV (Channel 26), in the Penobscot. The 54-year-old Detroiter also serves as senior pastor of Ambassadors for Christ Church in Redford Township.

After all the controversy surrounding her son, disgraced former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, the longtime legislator may be particularly vulnerable this year. A poll last fall of voters in her district, only 27 percent said they would vote for her again; a whopping 58 percent said they would vote for any hypothetical opponent.
