Reports: FBI raids militia group in Adrian

By Todd A. Heywood | 03.28.10 | 5:22 pm

Several Michigan news outlets are reporting that the FBI, Homeland Security, the Joint Terrorism Task Force and local law enforcement authorities have executed numerous search warrants related to a conservative Christian militia group located in Adrian. Reports indicate five people had been arrested.

The raids occurred Saturday night in the Lenawee county town of Adrian and focused on members of the group Hutaree. Hutaree bills itself as Christian group that “will one day see its enemy and meet him on the battlefield if so God wills it.” It also claims on its website to be “Preparing for the end time battles to keep the testimony of Jesus Christ alive.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center reports Hutaree is one of 47 active militia groups in Michigan.

While some news sources have reported the raids were directed at the Michigan Militia, the raids and arrests in Michigan were directed at Hutaree.

Lee Miracle, coordinator for the Southeast Michigan Volunteer Militia, says his group was not connected with Hutaree. He said his group withdrew from working with Hutaree because members of Hutaree were “forceful towards recruiting,” and “they had this you’re with us or against us mentality.”

Miracle said his group is secular, interested in protecting the Constitution, while Hutaree was a religious group that excluded people who did not believe in their particular brand of Christian thought.

“They think the end times are coming and they need to protect themselves and even worse, enforce their Christian beliefs on others after the end times,” Miracle said of Hutaree’s beliefs.

    A spy unsettles US-India ties
    By M K Bhadrakumar

News that the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had reached a plea bargain with David Coleman Headley, who played a key role in the planning of the terrorist strike in Mumbai in November 2008 in which 166 people were killed, has caused an uproar in India.

The deal enables the US government to hold back from formally producing any evidence against Headley in a court of law that might have included details of his links with US intelligence or oblige any cross-examination of Headley by the prosecution.

Nor can the families of the 166 victims be represented by a lawyer to question Headley during his trial commencing in Chicago. Headley's links with the US intelligence will now remain classified

information and the Pakistani nationals involved in the Mumbai attacks will get away scot-free. Furthermore, the FBI will not allow Headley's extradition to India and will restrict access so that Indian agencies cannot interrogate him regarding his links with US and Pakistani intelligence. “

The fact is, the Hutaree were on the warpath before this arrest.

Take a look at their myspace posts in the days before this raid:

Sounds to me like something happened which provoked the raid. It could be as simple as anti-moslem threats, as some have reported. The group favorited video on youtube which supported the Serbian side in the Kosovo war crimes, for example, so it seems likely that is where their sympathy lies.

Really, I think it's unhelpful for the Messgenger to speculate on anonymous, slanted stuff, before the facts of the case have even emerged, as it could prompt other militia members to start incidents and break the law, for no good reason!

I already see that liberal blogs elsewhere on the internet are lighting up about this and calling it a right-wing, the norm for Christians and affiliated with tea partiers….of course.

And although a majority of Christians are peaceful (as are Muslims) i wonder if they've ever taken a look at these maps:
