Kilpatrick arraigned for violating probation

By Ed Brayton | 03.10.10 | 7:09 am

Disgraced former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is in even more hot water after being arraigned on Tuesday on charges of violating his probation by failing to make the restitution payments required by the court. And this was done by the Chief Judge of the circuit court after Kilpatrick’s attorney challenged the presiding judge for bias. The Detroit News reports:

Ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was arraigned on probation violation charges today by the chief judge of Wayne Circuit Court.

Judge Timothy Kenny entered a not guilty plea on Kilpatrick’s behalf and ordered a $10,000 personal bond be set.

Kenny also said he will rule on Thursday on a motion to disqualify Wayne County Circuit Judge David Groner from continuing to hear the case against Kilpatrick. Kenny, chief of the circuit court’s criminal division, is requiring that Kilpatrick remain in Michigan until he gives his ruling on the appeal.

Kilpatrick is charged with violating his probation by not paying all of the restitution required and for not disclosing the sources of the money he did pay to the court, most of which apparently came from friends and family.
