Schauer: Rangel should resign

By Ed Brayton | 03.03.10 | 7:30 am

Rep. Mark Schauer (D-Michigan) is publicly calling on Rep. Charles Rangel (D-New York) to resign in the wake of multiple ethics scandals. The House Ethics Committee recently issued a report saying that Rangel had knowingly violated ethics rules that govern Congress.

In a press release, Schauer said:

“What Rep. Rangel did was wrong. It doesn’t matter which party’s he’s in, Rep. Rangel’s actions have compromised the integrity of the House of Representatives and violated the public trust. He should resign as Chairman immediately so Congress can focus on what matters most – getting our economy back on track and putting people back to work.”

He also announced that he would be donating $14,000 in contributions his campaign had received from Rangel’s leadership before the ethics scandal hit to charity.
