Yet another proposed sale of one of GM’s subsidiaries has fallen through. The attempted sale of the Hummer brand to Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machines has been scrapped because the company could not get the approval of the Chinese government, the Detroit Free Press reports.
“We are disappointed that the deal with Tengzhong could not be completed,” said John Smith, GM vice president of corporate planning and alliances. “GM will now work closely with Hummer employees, dealers and suppliers to wind down the business in an orderly and responsible manner.”
GM did say it would continue to honor warranties on existing Hummers.
