Bowman is out of the Democratic race for Gov

Bob Bowman, the former state treasurer, can be crossed off your score card for the Democratic nomination for governor in 2010. Bowman announced Monday morning that he was not going to seek the nomination only four days after forming an exploratory committee.

Associated Press says Bowman sent out a release Monday, saying in part:

He says he would enjoy the challenge but is “just not able to commit to run at this time.”

Bowman, 54, lives in New York City, but has a summer home in Harbor Springs.

He joins Denise Ilitch, a University of Michigan regent; Lt. Gov. John Cherry; Former state Rep. John Freeman; and state Sen. Hansen Clarke in declining to seek the nomination. Right now the only official candidates in the race are Lansing Mayor Virgil Bernero and State Rep. Alma Wheeler Smith.

Redford Township state Rep. Andy Dillon has formed an exploratory committee and is expected to announce his formal candidacy by the end of the month.
