OK, I admit that in the annals of political gift-giving, this one ranks pretty low. But it was fun, to a point. Democratic state Sen. Mark Schauer, who is in a tight battle with U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Jackson, for the 7th Congressional District, was a featured speaker at the Barack Obama/Joe Biden Road Trip for Change stop in Battle Creek, and before a crowd of 18,000, he presented a specially made box of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes.

There were two problems with this move. First, Obama and Biden didn’t arrive in the stadium until about 40 minutes after the presentation. Secondly, um, Mark? The box is roughly the size of a piece of paper, and there were not JumboTrons projecting your image to the 18,000 people. So only the people in the front row, who had been standing there since 4 p.m., actually saw the box.
