Wayne Newton abandons private plane in Michigan

wayne newton imageWayne Newton — a.k.a. Mr. Las Vegas — has apparently abandoned his private plane at the Oakland County International Airport for the past three years. According to several news stories making the rounds today, the legendary singer owes the airport more than $60K in storage fees. Even the Washington Post has picked up on the story.

Joe Borgesen, president of the airport, says he’s sent numerous email and even certified mail seeking payment from the Newton — all to no avail.

Borgesen has since claimed that an interested buyer was shown the plane in 2008 but the would-be buyers “got sick from all the black mold inside” the plane. He added that the aircraft is just junk at this point.

TMZ, naturally, has some additional details:

TMZ spoke with Newton’s rep who told us Wayne is the real victim here — because he’s spent “more than $700,000 to get the plane fixed and it’s still not fixed.”
