McCain picks Sarah who?

McCain camp changes the subject with veep selection, while we wonder Sarah who and why

On his 72nd birthday – which also happens to be the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina – John McCain has announced his choice for running mate, a first-term Governor of Alaska, and former small town mayor, Sarah Palin.

A woman who has been able to rise in the political arena as fast as Sarah Palin will no doubt have incredible appeal to some women in Michigan, and nationwide. Successful career woman with a marriage, children, a son in the military about to deploy to Iraq, and attractive to boot, could be an enticement to women voters. Her staunch anti-choice views will certainly ensure John McCain keeps his conservative voter base, but will those views be a turn-off for true women’s rights advocates? What ideals would they sacrifice to help elect a woman into the White House as Vice President? Being a lifetime NRA member with ties to big oil, and unfriendly to many environmental issues — such as opposition to polar bears being listed as endangered, in favor of aerial hunting of wolves, and pro-offshore oil drilling — are often hot buttons for men and women alike. If having a woman in the White House — any woman — is the primary objective, Palin could be a deciding factor. However, disenfranchised Hillary Clinton supporters could be insulted and put-off by the choice of the hockey-mom, as Hillary was supported not for her gender alone, but for her intelligence and experience.

Palin will also certainly keep the Obama-Biden camp on their toes as they discuss how they will deal with her inexperience, and other issues without coming across as sexist. This will also be a chore for the media as well. And as much as I look forward to the coming Palin-Biden debates, Biden, too, will have to avoid anything that could be construed as sexist or ‘talking down’ to Palin. This could be a huge sticking point for undecided women voters, if not in check.

Worth noting is the distraction that Sarah Palin has created in the media in the hours since that private jet was spotted in Ohio. Up to that point, everyone was still basking in the glow of Obama’s fabulous speech last night at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. We were all focused on the feeling of unity, the historical ramifications, and the hope for change. The McCain camp has successfully forced all that emotion to a veritable halt, as we scratch our heads and say, “Sarah who?” and try to figure out why her.

In my own estimation the choice of Palin is an act of desperation in a moment of panic as the Republican camp sat around watching the excitement that swept Denver last night. Nothing else makes sense as I ponder why, after making experience the issue in his campaign, would he appoint a former small town mayor, and first-term Governor with virtually no experience on every front, and every issue?

If that’s not enough to make you wonder, she doesn’t even know what the function of the vice president is (video at the link):

“But as for that VP talk all the time, I’ll tell ya, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me, what is it exactly that the VP does every day?”

Obama, made a major political mistake on not getting Hillary. Period!

McCain helped his campaign by picking another maverick and female who can stand up to anyone. A new inspiring pick the republicans need. She has 80 percent approval in Alaska. She taxed oil companies and gave it all back to tax payers at $1,200 each.

Obama is a smart inspiring speaker, but Palin's actions speak louder than political words. She has fought corruption in both parties in Alaska. When she speaks she says it like it is, unlike polished career politicians. Some people can talk the talk, but Palin can walk the walk.

Now the race is exciting! History will be made period with either Obama or McCain!

I think Obama was trying to escape the past by Edwards and Bill Clinton the cheating hubbies. Mccain just stole the idea from the democrats. From this article we all know who is going to be the man in the white house if Mccain is chosen. She is not ready to lead a country if the old fart drops. GO OBAMA 08!!

Well, I guess it proves that one doesn't need any experience and intelligence on world affairs to become the next VP. I find it quite scary because if something happened to McCain, health wise, does one really believe she can lead our nation? And where are we being led? …………….to Alaska to drill for oil and ruin the land………….to watch beautiful polar bears die off………………….to hunt and fish when our country is falling part at the seams? Only in American can we achieve the highest of goals with little knowledge……………………McCain's decision is scary for our country……………..Obama/Biden……..here I come.

If this election about judgment, the choice of Sarah Pahin shows poor judgment on McCain’s part.

Any intelligent person knows when you choose to have unprotected sex at 43 you have a very high probability of having a child with Downs Syndrome. She used poor judgment not using birth control.

Would she use better judgment dealing with our economy?

Would she use better judgment dealing with our enemies?

I for one am not willing to take a chance on Pahin’s and McCain’s judgment.

The question should be do you want intelligence or four more years of a moron running this nation.

Lets see my choice is John McCain or that smart black man Barack Obama?

McCain who does not know how to use a computer but is willing to learn if we elect him – I’ll just vote for that smart black man.

My Choices are: John McCain who says the economic downturn is psychological? – Na! I'll vote for the smart black man.

McCain who says you are better off under George Bush? – Nope I'll vote for the smart black man.

Mc Cain who wants to continue killing more people looking for weapons of mass destruction that do not exist? – Gee! I'll vote for the smart black man.

McCain who believes that we should stay the course but is not willing to support the people he puts in harms way. – I'll take a chance on the smart black man.

Should I vote for a man that does not know that 9-11 was caused by Osama Bin Laden not Sedam Hussein? – Easy! I'll vote for the smart black man.

Vote for the man who does not know if the Sunnis or Sheits are our enemies? – No way I'll vote for the smart black man.

Vote for the man who helped put our government on the China, Saudi Arabia credit card? – Not a chance I'll vote for the smart black man.

Vote for the man with the worst temper in the Senate to have his finger on the nuclear button? – No way – I'll vote for the smart black man.
