Snyder campaign says it has raised $3.2 million

Rick Snyder, the businessman from Ann Arbor who is seeking to gain the GOP nomination for governor in 2010, has raised $3.2 million in pursuit of that goal, says a campaign spokesman.

Jake Suski, Snyder campaign spokesman, tells the Associated Press, that his boss has put some of his own money into the campaign, but declined to say how much. Last fall Snyder said he had loaned the campaign $340,000.

The $3.2 million war chest will be necessary for Snyder, who is eyed suspiciously by the GOP establishment. He is competing for the nomination with Attorney General Mike Cox, state Sen. Tom George, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard, Holland Congressman Pete Hoekstra and Huron County Commissioner Tim Rujan.

Cox is the only other candidate who has acknowledged how much his campaign will report in fundraising on Feb. 1 when reports are due with the Secretary of State’s office. Cox says he has raised $1.8 million and has $1.5 million on hand.
