Trijicon, the Wixom, Michigan based company that has generated an enormous amount of controversy this week as it was revealed that they have inscribed Bible verses on scopes that they sell the military for use in Iraq and Afghanistan, is backing down from its defense of those inscriptions and will provide the military with the means to remove them from the scopes. AFP reports:
A US firm sought to quiet a controversy over coded Biblical references inscribed on gunsights used by US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan Thursday, announcing it was providing the military with kits to remove them…
The Wixom, Michigan company said it has inscribed references to the New Testament on the metal casings of its gunsights for over two decades.
But it said it would supply the military with 100 kits “to enable the removal of the references that are already on products that are currently deployed.”
Presumably they will also be changing their policy and not placing those inscriptions on scopes produced from this point on, but that was not announced.
