By Staff Report | 11.16.11

I am writing today to announce the closure of the Michigan Messenger. After four years of operation in Michigan, the board of the American Independent News Network, has decided to shift publication of its news into a single site, The American Independent at Americanindependent.com. This is part of a shift in strategy, towards new forms [...]

Michigan conservatives respond to Palin choice

By Todd A. Heywood | 08.29.08 | 2:18 pm

Within minutes of the announcement that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin would be Arizona Sen. John McCain’s choice for the second slot on the Republican ticket, Michigan Messenger was able to get responses on the choice from conservative blogger Joe Sylvester and Michigan GOP chair Saul Anuzis.

“At first glance Gov. Palin appears to have impressive conservative credentials,” was all Michigan Conservative Dossier Blogger Sylvester would say about Palin.

But Anuzis had quite a bit to say about the decision.

“Of course, for Michigan’s sake, we would have loved to see our favorite son [Mitt Romney] be on the ticket, but there is a lot to get excited about with Sarah Palin,” Anuzis wrote in an email. “This helps with the voters that propelled Granholm to victory in Michigan: suburban voters — especially women in places like Oakland County and West Michigan. It will excite the base who feel so strongly about a pro-life, conservative candidate. She will appeal strongly to our voters all across Michigan who believe in the right to bear arms — and can speak the same language of the hundreds of thousands of Michigan voters who spend their fall hunting deer in northern Michigan.”

“And her reputation as a reformer with no tolerance for government officials who abuse power and don’t serve citizens will have great resonance in Michigan that has been dragged through the Kilpatrick scandals for the last year and has watched the Granholm bring Michigan progress to a screeching hault [sic],” he wrote.

“Palin sends a strong signal to Washington, that change is on it’s way.  She has a record on reform that is second to none and nicely compliments one of McCain’s central themes of changing the culture in Washington,” Anuzis closed.

Apparently Anuzis is not aware that the Alaska Legislature- on a unanimous bipartisan basis by the 12 member legislative council- ordered an investigation into Palin for abuse of power and misconduct in office. The issues has to do with the firing of a public safety commissioner who refused to fire her ex-brother-inlaw state trooper, about whom Palin and her husband filed complaints for acts that occurred 2 years before the divorce.

Her record on reform has gone down the tubes.

Here's what the REPUBLICAN leaders of the Alaska Legislature had to say about her selection:

State Senate President Lyda Green said she thought it was a joke when someone called her at 6 a.m. to tell her the news.

“She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president? said Green, a Republican from Palin's hometown of Wasilla. “Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?”

Green, who has feuded with Palin, brought up the big oil tax increase Palin pushed through last year. She also pointed to the award of a $500 million state subsidy to a Canadian firm to pursue a natural gas pipeline that's far from guaranteed.

House Speaker John Harris, a Republican from Valdez, was also astonished at the news. He didn't want to get into the issue of her qualifications.

    “She's old enough,” Harris said. “She's a U.S. citizen.”

If this election about judgment, the choice of Sarah Pahin shows poor judgment on McCain’s part.

Any intelligent person knows when you choose to have unprotected sex at 43 you have a very high probability of having a child with Downs Syndrome. She used poor judgment not using birth control.

Would she use better judgment dealing with our economy?

Would she use better judgment dealing with our enemies?

I for one am not willing to take a chance on Pahin’s and McCain’s judgment.
