Multiple media outlets are confirming that Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska has been selected as the vice presidential candidate for the GOP ticket.
Palin is a first term governor, having only served since 2006; she’s also a self-described “hockey mom” and a mother of five, extremely pro-life and a proponent of Big Oil. You’re sure to hear more soon about her experience, although there won’t be much to report. The choice of a political figure from Alaska seems odd, as it will draw attention to that state’s “Icebox of Corruption”, what with the investigations into Ted Stevens and family as well as other Alaskan pols.
From the outside, it appears as if conservatives may be in shock, if CNBC’s analysts opinions are an indication.
“This is utter madness, absolutely insane,” said political analyst Greg Valliere, who then ran down McCain’s age and all of his health problems. “This woman makes Dan Quayle look reasonable.”
On the issue of a debate with Biden, Valliere said, “[the] stature gap is significant here.”
When asked about Valliere’s assessment, CNBC’s chief Washington correspondent John Harwood responds, “[it's] basically nightmare scenario for the Republican ticket.”
Stay tuned!
