Cox has $1.5 million war chest

At least one candidate for governor is not running into the fundraising problems that forced Lt. Gov. John Cherry out of the race. Though not required to do so, Attorney General Mike Cox announced that he has raised nearly $2 million in his race for governor and has most of that still in the bank to spend. The Detroit Free Press reports:

While most of the political attention in Michigan was centered on Democrats last week, since Lt. Gov. John Cherry dropped out of the gubernatorial chase, Attorney General Mike Cox couldn’t resist giving a preview of his campaign for governor.

The Livonia Republican has raised a formidable $1.8 million and still has $1.5 million in available cash.

All of the candidates are required to file campaign finance reports with the state at the end of this month, so we’ll know then how this stacks up against others in the race.
