A pair of Republican businessmen have tossed their hats in the political ring in hopes of taking a state Senate seat currently held by Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop and unseating freshman Democratic Congressman Gary Peters.
The Macomb Daily reports Gene Taliercio will join a growing field of GOP hopefuls to replace Bishop, who is term limited. The paper reports Gene Goodman will join two other Republicans vying for the chance to take on Peters for the 9th Congressional seat.
Talierico had planned to seek Peters’ seat, but shifted to seeking the state Senate seat. He might face Copper Rizzo, term-limited state Reps. John Garfield (R-Rochester Hills) and Jim Marleau (R-Lake Orion), and Stuart Bikson of Rochester in the primary battle to replace Bishop.
Bishop is seeking the Republican nomination for Attorney General.
Meanwhile, Goodman enters a primary with two other GOP hopefuls — Andrew Raczkowski, a former state lawmaker, or Paul Welday, a former lobbyist.
Goodman owns Versatube, an automotive supplier, while Talierico is a food distributor.
