Sen. Engler?

Kyle Melinn, the editor of Michigan Information and Research Services (MIRS), has an interesting tidbit in his weekly column at City Pulse newspaper in Lansing. There, he notes former Republican Gov. John Engler and his wife Michelle are rumored to be seeking a home in Michigan.

The reason? Engler could be seeking to set up a home in the Wolverine state to make a bid for the U.S. Senate in 2012 against U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow.

Former Gov. John Engler and his wife have been house-hunting in the mid-Michigan area, multiple sources have told MIRS, raising the speculation that Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s predecessor could be trying to establish residency in the Mitten State for a run at U.S. Senate seat in 2012.

It’s not a done deal yet though, Melinn warns. Englerites should know that Mike Rogers, the former FBI agent and current Republican Congressman from the Michigan 8th could be redistricted out of a job come 2011 and he might like a chance to take on Stabenow. Plus, Melnin warns, Engler’s current post in Virginia brings him a reported seven figure job and he would have to pull the triplets from their school down south.
